Hyalite Opals from Sombrerete, Zacatecas, México, are renowned for their striking translucent to transparent appearance, often exhibiting a delicate play of color and a glassy luster. These opals are characterized by their unique internal structure, which allows light to pass through, creating a captivating glow reminiscent of molten glass or ice. Found in the volcanic terrains of Zacatecas, Hyalite Opals often display subtle hues of white, and pale yellow. In Sombrerete, the unique geological conditions—such as volcanic activity and mineral-rich groundwater—facilitate the crystallization of silica into hyalite opal, often resulting in smooth, glassy textures and bright, iridescent hues. While they may appear colorless or slightly milky in natural light, under short & long wave UV illumination, they have intense neon green fluorescence.
